David Neto 760c399cfb Delete tests with invalid SPIR-V inputs
The structured CFG rule was revised/clarified in SPIR-V 1.6 Rev2
Validation now rejects a few cases.

  - Originally from crbug.com/tint/804
    Invalid by SPIR-V 1.6 Rev2 update to validation rules:
     - Block 80 is a structurally reachable continue target
     - Block 25 is not structually reachable, and not part of the loop,
       but branches to 80.

vk-gl-cts/graphicsfuzz/cov-dead-branch-func-return-arg/0-opt.*
  -  The continue construct with the continue target 37[%37]
     is not structurally post dominated by the back-edge block 64[%64]
  - The SPIRV-Tools inliner no longer creates such cases.  It splits the
    single-block loop and pushes the continue target down.

vk-gl-cts/graphicsfuzz/nested-for-loops-with-return/0-opt.spvasm
  - The loop headed at block 46 does not structurally dominate its merge
    block 44.  There is a continue-target edge from 41 to 44.

Ben Clayton 03f88e6f49 test/tint/expressions/type_ctor: Use 'var' instead of 'let'
Module-scope 'let' is getting replaced by 'const'. For all backends,
'const' will be inlined into the place of usage, making most of these
tests produce no output (if replaced with 'const'). Instead switch to
emitting with 'var'.

dan sinclair 6c167a0dc7 msl: Promote local private vars to function scope
If a module-scope private variable is only referenced within a single
function, promote it to a function scope declaration instead of
passing it as a parameter. This reduces the number of a function
parameters that are needed in some cases.

Ben Clayton b4ff8c859a tint/resolver: Simplify array size evaluation
Use the constant evaluated value instead of manually traversing
variables to find the literal value. This is a small step towards
supporting 'const' values for array sizes.

Also make our OOB-byte related error diagnostics consistent.

Ben Clayton 32cb9cf2f8 tint/writer: Disable constant inlining for lets
Once 'const' is introduced, let will no longer resolve to a
creation-time constant value.

Add temporary code into each of the writers to prevent constants that
originate from a 'let' from being inlined. This will reduce the amount
of noise in later CLs.

Ben Clayton f47887d207 tint/writer/msl: Generate an array<T,N> helper
And remove the WrapArraysInStructs transform.

Wrapping arrays in structures becomes troublesome for `const` arrays, as
currently WGSL does not allow `const` structures.

MSL 2.0+ has a builtin array<> helper, but we're targetting MSL 1.2, so
we have to emit our own. Fortunately, it can be done with a few lines of
templated code.

This produces significantly cleaner output.

Ben Clayton 3c054304a8 tint/sem: Support arrays for sem::Constant
https://github.com/gpuweb/gpuweb/issues/3056 proposes that creation-time
constant expressions should support arrays. We have verbal agreement to
update to spec to support const arrays.

Ben Clayton 5041480715 tint/writer: Clean up EmitConstant() methods
Aside from more SPIR-V using OpConstantNull, this is a no-op change.
By refactoring these methods, they're easier to read, and contain less
lambda-heavy code.

If the object and index are both constant expressions, resolve the
index as a constant.

Note: Expectations have been updated for indexing on 'let's. Once
'const' is introduced, 'let' will no longer be treated as a constant
expression, and these expectations will be reverted.

jchen10 ef62b58cf9 Skip Gamma and Gamut conversions for BT.709->SRGB
This introduces a new field 'doYuvToRgbConversionOnly' in
ExternalTextureParams to have the WGSL only do yuv->rgb conversion for
better performance. User studies shows that users don't really care
about the Gamma difference between 2.4 and 2.2.

dan sinclair 889a499ef4 Remove test/tint/BUILD.gn.
This Cl moves the contents of the test/tint/BUILD.gn file into the
src/tint/BUILD.gn file. This moves the tests into the same build file as
what is being tested. This is more in line with how the CMakeLists.txt
file is setup.

This removes the need to update 2 BUILD.gn files when adding new files
and tests to tint.

Ben Clayton dcdf66ed5b tint/ast: Derive off `ast::Variable`
Add the new classes:
* `ast::Let`
* `ast::Override`
* `ast::Parameter`
* `ast::Var`

Limit the fields to those that are only applicable for their type.

Note: The resolver and validator is a tangled mess for each of the
variable types. This CL tries to keep the functionality exactly the
same. I'll clean this up in another change.

dan sinclair 4b88dbcf8e Fixup continue support in while loops.
The generators were not setting `emit_continuing_` when emitting while
loops. This caused a crash when a `continue` was encountered. This CL
adds the `emit_continuing_` setup to the while emission. It also guards
the `emit_continuing_` usage with making sure the function is setup.

dan sinclair b29892be09 Update src/tint unittests to new @stage format.
This CL updates all of the Tint unittests to the new @stage shorter

dan sinclair f0c150b01b Add parsing of shorter stage attributes.
This CL adds the ability to parse the `@compute`, `@fragment` and
`@vertex` attrbutes. The `@stage(...)` are still accepted and are not
marked as deprecated yet.

Most tests are still using `@stage(..)` except for a testing one.

Antonio Maiorano 08f4b557fc Implement atomicCompareExchangeWeak returning struct instead of vec2
Also fixed implementation of this atomic in GLSL. It was emitting code
that would not compile because, as for HLSL, we must pass in the
variable directly to atomic funcs, not via an in/out arg to a function.

Ben Clayton 9707e6bb38 tint: Rework sem::Constant to be variant-of-vector
Instead of vector-of-variant.
This:
• Makes it impossible to produce a mix of scalar variant types, which
  would make no sense.
• Reduces the size of a Constant, by removing the union-tag from each
  element.

Also clean up terminology. Rename 'Constant::Scalar' to
 'Constant::Element'. Scalars are well-defined in WGSL, and with the
introduction of abstract-numerics, this no longer makes sense.

Antonio Maiorano ab4c035762 tint: fix HLSL countOneBits and reverseBits for i32 args
These two functions in HLSL only accept and return uint. Thus, if the
result of these calls is passed to a function that wants int, it will
fail, or call the uint overload if one exists. Fixed by casting the
result to int if the arg is int.

Ben Clayton 7f2b8cd8fc tint: Refactor Extensions / Enables.
* Extract ast::Enable::ExtensionKind to ast::Extension.
* Move the parsing out of ast::Enable and next to ast/extension.h
* Change the ast::Enable constructor to take the Extension, instead of
  a std::string. It's the WGSL parser's responsibility to parse, not the
  AST nodes.
* Add ProgramBuilder::Enable() helper.
* Keep ast::Module simple - keep track of the declared AST Enable nodes,
  don't do any deduplicating of the enabled extensions.
* Add the de-duplicated ast::Extensions to the sem::Module.
* Remove the kInternalExtensionForTesting enum value - we have kF16
  now, which can be used instead for testing.
* Rename kNoExtension to kNone.

Add additional nodes to capture places where control flow is changed
(if, switch, for, short-circuiting op, function call), and use these
to show the actual point at which control flow became non-uniform as a

Zhaoming Jiang 62bfd318ae tint: Implement `f16` keyword in Tint frontend

1. Add the `f16` WGSL extension.
2. Add `f16` as keyword, and remove it from reserved word list.
3. Add ast::f16 and sem::f16, and implement validation that using `f16`
   type must be with `f16` extension enabled.

When producing an error from the uniformity analysis, add notes to
show the underlying reason for the uniformity requirement.

For function calls that are required-to-be-uniform, show the innermost
builtin call that has the requirement.

For function parameters that are required-to-be-uniform, recurse into
that function to show where its requirement comes from.

Add some new tests to specifically test the error messages.

James Price be656f7984 tint: Implement uniformity analaysis
This implements the uniformity analysis as currently described in the
WGSL specification. Uniformity issues are presented as warnings, and
will be switched to errors in a future release.

A follow-up patch will improve the error messages, which currently
just show the point at which a uniformity was detected.

In a future release, once we have obtained initial feedback from
users, uniformity issues will become errors.

Ben Clayton 8822e2966a tint: Merge [S|U]intLiteralExpression
Merge SintLiteralExpression and UintLiteralExpression with
IntLiteralExpression. IntLiteralExpression has a new Suffix field which
indicates whether the literal is either a:
• 'i' suffixed integer literal
• 'u' suffixed integer literal
• no-suffix integer literal

Have the SPIR-V reader produce no-suffixed literals for i32 types, to
keep this change small. In future changes the SPIR-V reader will
produce 'i' suffixed types for these.

James Price 26ebe5ec36 tint: Refactor if-else statement representation
Instead of using an `if` node that has a list of `else` statements,
make each `if` statement have a single optional `else` statement,
which may itself be an `if` statement (or just a block statement).

This better matches the WGSL grammar (now that we have removed
`elseif`), and simplifies various pieces of code that handle these
statements.

Ben Clayton 617570a7da tint/writer: Replace scope_stack_, fix type ctor scoping.
ScopeStack is not needed here - the resolver already provides variable scoping with the sem::Variables.

Re-purpose scope_stack_ for a stack of Scope, which now holds the type constructor -> SPIR-V ID map.
This map needs to be per-scope, to fix issues like crbug.com/tint/1520

Concatenating strings to use for cache keys is horribly inefficent and very error prone.

Add a UnorderedKeyWrapper helper to allow types to be used as a unordered_map and unordered_set key. Use this for the type_constructor_to_id_ map.

Produces SPIR-V with some duplicate SPIR-V instructions for constructors removed.

Zhaoming Jiang 7098d3d692 tint: Add enable directive for extensions
In this CL the enable directive is implemented.
1. Add AST node for enable directive, assign a ExtensionKind (enum) for
each supported extension.
2. Use an unorder_set in ast::Module to record all required extensions'
kind.
3. Provide inspector methods for getting names of used extension, and
getting all used enable directives' extension names and location.
4. For different writer, the extension nodes are handled in different
ways. MSL and HLSL writers will just ignore the extension nodes, while
SPIRV and GLSL writers will emit corresponding code.
5. Implement unittests and end2end test for enable directive and
inspector, using a reserved extension name `InternalExtensionForTesting`.

Stephen White 790e4c2d60 GLSL writer: emit gl_PointSize = 1 in all vertex shaders for OpenGL.
The OpenGL ES 3.1 spec says:

"The point size is taken from the shader built-in gl_PointSize written by the vertex shader, and clamped to the implementation-dependent point size range. If the value written to gl_PointSize is less than or equal to zero, or if no value is written, the point size is undefined."

ANGLE/D3D11 will emit a warning on this and abort processing, causing dawn_end2end tests to fail.

dan sinclair fb5a492787 Fix inclusive language presubmit
The current presubmit has the filter inverted so it would only attempt
to match the filtered files. The file name also has to be converted to
`LocalPath` otherwise it's attempting to compare a python object to a

Antonio Maiorano f625a6d57e tint: Make GLSL backend consistent with the others
Remove transform::Glsl and replace with a Sanitize function. Cleans up
the code, reduces allocations and copies, and makes it consistent with
the other backends.

Also add a copy of src/tint/.clang-format to include/tint/ to keep files
in there formatted as per the tint standard.

And force shader code to always use LF endings.

Post merge, there were a number of files that crept in with CRLF endings.

Some Tint end-to-end tests take objection to CRLF endings.

CRLF endings can be detected with:

And fixed with:

Ben Clayton 9f49ac5493 tools: Replace copy-pasta scripts
There were a bunch of helper scripts to build a go tool and run it.
Replace these with a single 'run' command that takes the tool name and arguments.

Helps reduce maintainance, file spew.

Also add the 'tools/bin' directory to .gitignore. These are the cached tool binaries.

Antonio Maiorano a730eb738e Add option to auto generate bindings for external textures
With this change, the backend sanitizers always run the
MultiplanarExternalTexture transform. If the new option is enabled, it
auto-generates bindings for this transform.

This change also enables this auto-generation for the Tint commandline
application, as well as for the fuzzers.

Stephen White b7e560dea0 GLSL: fix "uniform" qualifier on texture parameters.
Textures as function parameters should not have the "uniform"
qualifier. Fixed by handling StorageClass::kUniformConstant the
same as StorageClass::kUniform, and removing the unconditional
"uniform" qualifier output. (Global texture variables have
StorageClass::kUniformConstant set, while function parameters don't.)

James Price b9b6e69631 Add ExpandCompoundAssignment transform
This transform converts compound assignment statements into regular
assignments, hoisting LHS expressions and converting for-loops and
else-if statements if necessary.

The vector-component case needs particular care, as we cannot take the
address of a vector component. We need to capture a pointer to the
whole vector and also the component index expression:

// Before
vector_array[foo()][bar()] *= 2.0;

// After:
let _vec = &vector_array[foo()];
let _idx = bar();
(*_vec)[_idx] = (*_vec)[_idx] * 2.0;

Antonio Maiorano 66d6668372 Implement discard semantics
Implement new transform UnwindDiscardFunctions that replaces discard
statements with setting a module-level bool, adds a check and return for
this bool after every function call that may discard, and finally
invokes a single function that executes a discard from top-level
functions.

Regenerated tests and remove HLSL ones that used to fail FXC because it
had difficulty with discard.

We still use the StrideAttribute AST node in the SPIR-V reader for
strided arrays and matrices, which are then removed by transforms.

Stephen White 66abf3ed14 GLSL: don't emit structs w/runtime-sized arrays.
In GLSL, runtime-sized arrays are only valid in interface blocks, not
in structs. The existing code was attempting to avoid emitting structs
containing runtime-sized arrays but was confused by type aliases in
the AST resulting in arrays being missed.

The fix is to do the work on the semantic types instead, where type
aliases have been resolved.

Stephen White 93f686617e GLSL: fix textureGather() and textureGatherOffset() with depth textures.
Unlike other texture functions in GLSL, textureGather() and
textureGatherOffset() do not expect the refZ value to be appended to
the texture coordinates. It is passed as a regular argument. So append
refZ to coordinates by default, and pass as a regular parameter only
for the gather functions.

Stephen White 17601930e4 GLSL: fix textureSampleLevel() on depth textures.
Multiple bugs here:

1) Like texture(), GLSL's textureLod() on depth textures returns a
   scalar, and does not need to be swizzled. So set glsl_ret_width to
   1 in that case.
2) Like texture(), GLSL's textureLod() always requires a Dref
   parameter, so append a zero if not present.
3) GLSL's "lod" parameter to textureLod() is always a float, unlike
   WGSL's textureSampleLevel() which is an i32 for depth textures,
   so cast it.

Along the way, I discovered that textureLod() is not supported on
samplerCubeShadow or sampler2DArrayShadow (even on Desktop GL). So some
tests will never pass. Logged as https://crbug.com/dawn/1313

Stephen White ba4d6ab01d GLSL: implement derivative instructions.
While Desktop GLSL supports the Coarse and Fine flavours, GLSL ES does
not. For now, emit dFdx/dFdy in all cases for ES, but excluding the
Coarse and Fine flavours via validation is also an option.

Antonio Maiorano 0bb04c2057 Split back out two transforms previously combined into PromoteSideEffectsToDeclTest
That is, bring back both VarForDynamicIndex and
PromoteInitializersToConstVar. This is not a complete revert, though:
*  VarForDynamicIndex no longer depends on ForLoopToLoop
* Both can cope with hoisting from "else if"
* More unit tests were added in the interim

Delete PromoteSideEffectsToDecl for now. This may be brought back to
handle ensuring order of evaluation.

Stephen White 0b3dfef469 GLSL: call renamer transform from GLSL transform.
This significantly simplifies the calling code from Dawn.
It does require moving the SingleEntryPoint transform above the
renamer, since we need to call SEP with the original name. That is
probably also an optimization, since we do the subsequent transforms
with a culled AST.

Ben Clayton 8ec32a6ec9 writers: Use the new sem::Module::DependencyOrderedDeclarations
As the resolver currently enforces in-order declarations, this does not
change the declaration order from iterating over the
ast::Module::GlobalDeclarations.

The MSL backend has been changed to use the
sem::Module::DependencyOrderedDeclarations list instead of looping over
different declaration types separately.

Stephen White a924ffe70c GLSL: fix sample_index, sample_mask and bitcasts
In GLSL, gl_SampleID and gl_SampleMask[In] require the
GL_OES_sample_variables extension, so output:

"#extension GL_OES_sample_variables : require"

in the header if those builtins is used.

Note that extensions must be inserted before the default precision
declaration, but helpers must be inserted after it, so we set a flag
and emit extensions, then the precision declaration, then helpers.

Further fixes:
- use gl_SampleMaskIn for input builtins, gl_SampleMask for output,
  necessitating the addition of a storage class to GLSLBuiltinToString()
- fix the handling of gl_SampleMaskIn: it's array<i32> in GLSL, not
  array<u32> as in SPIR-V
- centralize conversions for GLSL builtins used as input variables in
  FromGLSLBuiltin()
- implement bitcasts on assignment to GLSL builtin output variables,
  centralized in ToGLSLBuiltin()
- update the extension handling in the GLSL writer to check for both
  sample_index and sample_mask.
- call UnwrapRef() in GLSL's EmitBitcast(). In the test case, we were
  not recognizing the argument as a uint, yielding float() instead of
  uintBitsToFloat().

Stephen White d9b32c3178 GLSL: fix textureLoad() and textureStore(), depth textures, and more.
The CombineSamplers transform was incorrectly flagging StorageTexture
(which in GLSL ends up as image2D) as needing to be combined with a
sampler, or at least renamed. This is incorrect: StorageTexture never
has an associated sampler, so don't try to pair it up and just output
it as image* in GLSL.

In GLSL, textureLoad (aka texelFetch) of depth textures is not allowed.
The fix is to bind the depth texture as the corresponding f32 texture
instead (e.g., texture_depth_2d -> texture_2d<f32>,
texture_depth_cube -> texture_cube<f32>, etc). This requires changing
both the uniform globals and function parameter types. We're now going
to receive a vec4 instead of a float from texelFetch, so add a ".x"
member accessor to retrieve the first component. (Note that we don't
do this inside a CallStatement since this gives the CloneContext
indigestion, and CallStatement is going to ignore the result of the
call anyway.)

We were failing to find the dummy samplers that Dawn creates for the
calls that actually do require a dummy sampler, since the old Inspector
implementation of GetSamplerTextureUses() does not find them. The fix
is to implement a new Inspector call to return the texture/sampler
pairs the Resolver found during resolution. This will include the
dummy sampler as a null variable pointer.

In order to identify the placeholder sampler, we pass in a BindingPair
to represent it. When we discover a null sampler in the variable pair,
we return the passed-in placeholder binding point to the caller (Dawn).
(Dawn will use a group of kMaxBindGroups, to ensure that it never
collides with an existing sampler.)

Stephen White d4d7153bad GLSL: fix shadow samplers, and textures generally.
1) Append "Shadow" to samplers representing depth textures.
2) Sampling a depth texture returns f32, not vec4<f32>
3) Sampling a depth texture requires a Dref parameter, so we must
   generate one if none is provided.
4) GLSL requires Dref to be appended to the texture coordinates vector,
   *unless* it's a samplerCubeArrayShadow, since this would require vec5.
   In that case, it's passed as a separate parameter.
5) GLSL's textureGather() with a depth sampler always requires a refZ
   parameter, so provide zero to emulate WGSL's compare-less textureGather().
6) texelFetch() does not support depth textures, so this will have to be
   validated out.
7) textureOffset() does not support sampler2DArrayShadow in GLES, so this will
   have to be validated out.

Antonio Maiorano e1699caf81 Fix PromoteSideEffectsToDeclTest converting for loop to loop with nested hoisted lets
When converting a for-loop to a loop, we were not cloning the for-loop's
body, but rather the statements within it. This worked fine, except if
we also hoisted a variable to a let within that body, which requires the
body to be cloned for the 'insert before' to work. This change clones
the for-loop body, which fixes the problem, but introduces a block in
the destination AST, which is ugly, but not incorrect.

Stephen White f9b8b6104d GLSL: implement CombineSamplers transform (string version).
This transform converts all separate texture/sampler references
in a program into combined texture/samplers. This is required for GLSL,
which does not support separate texture/samplers.

As input, the transform requires a map from the unique sampler/texture
pairs previously gathered by the Resolver to strings, which will be
used as the names of the newly-generated combined samplers. Note that
binding points are unused by GLSL, and so are set to (0, 0) with
collision detection disabled.

All function signatures containing textures or samplers are rewritten,
as well as function calls and texture intrinsic calls. For texture
intrinsic calls, a placeholder sampler is used to satisfy the subsequent
Resolver pass (GLSL texture intrinsics do not require a separate sampler,
but WGSL intrinsics do). The placeholder is also used if the shader
contains only texture references (e.g., textureLoad).

Antonio Maiorano 8db439d848 Add PromoteSideEffectsToDecl transform
Fold both PromoteInitializersToConstVar and VarForDynamicIndex into this
new transform, with a config to enable either type of transformation.
This is almost a no-op change, except that VarForDynamicIndex required
ForLoopToLoop, while this tranformation in PromoteInitializersToConstVar
converts for-loops only as needed, so it doesn't do so when the
expression is in the for-loop initializer.

This transform will be extended to handle ensuring order of execution of
expressions.

Ben Clayton 73ced33dfb test/benchmark: Add more shaders to the corpus
Kindly donated by Brandon Jones and Austin Eng.
Tint has been used to convert all the deprecated attributes to the new style. In doing so, comments have been stripped. These are not massively important for the benchmarking.

Bindings have also been adjusted to be sequential and unique so that the MSL backend doesn't have to deal with binding remapping.

Existing benchmark files that used an underscore '_' have been renamed to use a dash '-' instead, to match the new files.

Antonio Maiorano 9943de6813 Fix FXC compile errors on modulo by zero
Just like for divide, FXC fails with the exact same error when
performing a modulo on a value that FXC determines to be zero. We
address it in the same way as we do for divide.

This also fixes a couple of the vk-gl-cts tests for which I manually
generated expectation files for.

Antonio Maiorano 821f9bb525 Fix FXC compile errors on divide by zero
FXC fails to compile when it determines that the rhs of an integral
division is zero with "error X4010: Unsigned integer divide by zero".

bclayton's fix (https://dawn-review.googlesource.com/c/tint/+/60500)
addressed cases for division by an integer constant 0. This CL adds the
missing support for division by integral vectors with 0 components.

FXC also fails on division by integral expressions that it can fold to
0. To handle these cases, we now emit a runtime check for 0 and replace
by 1. In the cases I've tested, FXC seems able to optimize these checks
away.

Antonio Maiorano 654149fd69 Kokoro: run e2e tests with FXC validation
* Fixed DXC installation so that we download the latest release, and
patch it with the latest artifact build. This ensures that the correct
dxil.dll is next to dxc.exe, rather than having dxc.exe pick up whatever
dxil.dll is in PATH.

* To run tests with FXC requires the correct d3dcompiler_47.dll. To do
this, I modified the script to download the Windows SDK, and install
only the feature that contains the DLL.

* To avoid issues with DXC and FXC finding exes/dlls in PATH, modified
the script to temporarily set PATH as needed.

Antonio Maiorano d733fdb85c HLSL: work around FXC failures when dynamically indexing arrays in structs
FXC fails to compile code that assigns to dynamically-indexed fixed-size
arrays in structs on internal shader variables with:

error X3500: array reference cannot be used as an l-value; not natively
addressable

This CL detects this case, and transforms such assignments into copying
out the array to a local variable, assigning to that local, and then
copying the array back.

Also manually regenerate SKIPs for HLSL/FXC after this change, which
fixes 30 tests. Also exposes some "compilation aborted unexpectedly" now
that  "array reference cannot be used as an l-value" has been fixed. For
tests that fail for both DXC and FXC, updating SKIPs to the DXC one to
help distinguish actual FXC bugs from valid errors.

James Price 3a4443a681 spirv: Add block decorations with a transform
Any struct which is used as the store type of a buffer variable needs
to have a block decoration. If that struct is nested inside an array
or another struct, we wrap it inside another struct first.

This removes the SPIR-V backend's reliance on the [[block]] attribute,
which will soon be deprecated and removed.

This fixes errors like "error X3500: array reference cannot be used as
an l-value; not natively addressable". Note that FXC treats matrices
like arrays. We still get this error for dynamically indexed arrays in
structs.

Also improved HLSL assign tests, and add missing ones for vector
indexing.

Manually removed 20 e2e skip hlsl SKIP files that are now passing with
this change.

Antonio Maiorano 2f7730a16e Manually generate HLSL skip files for vk-gl-cts e2e tests
It seems we haven't run our e2e tests with FXC validation in a long time
 - at least not since we've added the vk-gl-cts corpus.

Locally disabled exclusion of "/test/vk-gl-cts/" in test-runner/main.go,
and ran:
./test/test-all.sh out/build/x64-Debug/tint.exe --format hlsl --fxc --generate-skip

These will need to be manually removed once the skips aren't needed by
deleting them all, and re-running as above.

Fix dependency graph traversal for bitcasts. These were not being traversed, leading to an ICE if the bitcast type was an alias, as the symbol was not resolved for later use by the resolver.

Add missing validation for bitcasts. We were permitting any bitcast that wasn't a being cast to a pointer type, when the spec only allows:
 * numeric_scalar to numeric_scalar
 * vecN<numeric_scalar> to vecN<numeric_scalar>

Ben Clayton ea3eee9885 resolver: Migrate validation to behavior analysis
Migrate some of the validation logic over to use the results of behavior
analysis.

The most significant changes are:
* Unreachable-statements now consider merge-points of control flow. For
  example, if all branches of a if-statement or switch-statement either
  return or discard, the next statement will be considered unreachable.
* Unreachable statements are no longer an error, but a warning. See
  https://github.com/gpuweb/gpuweb/issues/2378.
* Statements that follow a loops that does not break, or have a
  conditional will now be considered unreachable.
* Unreachable statements produced by the SPIR-V reader are now removed
  using the new RemoveUnreachableStatements transform.

Some other new changes include additional validation for the continuing
block for for-loops, to match the rules of a loop continuing block.
The new cases this validation is testing for are not expressible in
WGSL, but some transforms may produce complex continuing statements that
might violate these rules. All the writers are able to decay these
complex for-loop continuing statements to regular loops.

If we encounter a global twice, the stack vector was not popped, which could trigger false cyclic-dependency errors. Because the cyclic dependency did not actually exist, later logic could break, expecting to find a global->global edge which did not exist.

It's surprising that the fuzzers didn't find this, but I've confirmed that at least one of the fuzzers will fail with this case.

Ben Clayton e0a560c8da transform: Don't consider type-ctor/casts as having side-effects
RemovePhonies was transforming:

_ = f32(1)
_ = vec2<f32>(1.0, 2.0)

into:

f32(1)
vec2<f32>(1.0, 2.0)

Which the resolver gets grumpy about, as these are expressions, not statements.

Ben Clayton b05e185a36 resolver: Support shadowing
Add transform::Unshadow to renamed shadowed symbols. Required by a
number of other transforms.

Replace Resolver symbol resolution with dep-graph.

The dependency graph now performs full symbol resolution before the
regular resolver pass.
Make use of this instead of duplicating the effort.

Simplfies code, and actually performs variable shadowing consistently.

Ben Clayton e524ee1813 transform: Combine InlinePointerLets and Simplify
They are always used together, and can actually be simplified when
combined.
This transform cannot currently deal with shadowing, and will need
need to depend on a new 'unshadow' transform.

Fixes a long-standing bug where we'd get an ICE if we attempt to inline
a pointer let declaration with side-effects in a for-loop initializer.

Ben Clayton 4183051b54 resolver: Add dependency-graph analysis
Performs a module-scope (global) declaration dependency analysis, so
that out-of-order global declarations can be re-ordered into dependency
order for consumption by the resolver.

The WGSL working group are currently debating whether out-of-order
declarations should be included in WebGPU V1, so this implementation
currently errors if module-scope declarations are declared out-of-order,
and the resolver does not currently use this sorted global list.

The analysis does however provide significantly better error diagnostics
when cyclic dependencies are formed, and when globals are declared
out-of-order.

The DependencyGraph also correctly now detects symbol collisions between
functions and types (tint:1308).

With this change, validation is duplicated between the DependencyGraph
and the Resolver. The now-unreachable validation will be removed from
the Resolver with a followup change.

Stephen White 0ff3050c6c GLSL: a grab bag of texture fixes.
Use imageSize() on images, not textureSize().
In GLSL, the LOD parameter to textureSize() is mandatory for
sampled textures, so emit a default 0 if not supplied. (Also, don't pack
the level into the coords argument; that's an HLSLism.)
GLSL returns the array size of array textures in the final component
of textureSize(); remove it for WGSL.
Write the subtype of storage images correctly (uimage*, iimage*, etc).
This required a bit of cleanup to move "writeonly" ahead of subtype
emission.

Austin Eng 38fa643702 Add HLSL/MSL generator options for ArrayLengthFromUniform
ArrayLengthFromUniform is needed for correct bounds checks on
dynamic storage buffers on D3D12. The intrinsic GetDimensions does
not return the actual size of the buffer binding.

ArrayLengthFromUniform is updated to output the indices of the
uniform buffer that are statically used. This allows Dawn to minimize
the amount of data needed to upload into the uniform buffer.
These output indices are returned on the HLSL/MSL generator result.

ArrayLengthFromUniform is also updated to allow only some of the
arrayLength calls to be replaced with uniform buffer loads. For HLSL
output, the remaining arrayLength computations will continue to use
GetDimensions(). For MSL, it is invalid to not specify an index into
the uniform buffer for all storage buffers.

After Dawn is updated to use the array_length_from_uniform option in the
Metal backend, the buffer_size_ubo_index member for MSL output may be
removed.

Implements MultiplanarExternalTextureTransform to allow transforming a
texture_external binding into two texture_2d<f32> bindings and a uniform
buffer binding. Transforms textureSampleLevel and textureLoad calls with

Ben Clayton 735dca8393 ast: Remove TypeConstructorExpression
Add a new 'Target' to the ast::CallExpression, which can be either an
Identifier or Type. The Identifier may resolve to a Type, if the Type is
a structure or alias.

The Resolver now resolves the CallExpression target to one of the
following sem::CallTargets:
* sem::Function
* sem::Intrinsic
* sem::TypeConstructor
* sem::TypeCast

This change will allow us to remove the type tracking logic from the WGSL
parser, which is required for out-of-order module scope declarations.

but this is the root source_set for the unit tests.

template.

Antonio Maiorano 8bc1a3045d HLSL: workaround FXC sometimes failing with 'not all control paths return a result' in functions with discard
To fix this, we trick the compiler by wrapping the function body with an
if (true) { <function body> } followed by returning an unused value of
the return type.

Ben Clayton a838bb718b ast: Rename ArrayAccessorExpression to IndexAccessorExpression
The object is not always an array. The index can be applied to vectors

Ben Clayton 30848b6594 ast: Add 'Expression' suffix to literals
Literals are now expressions, so in keeping with all the other
expression types, suffix the class name with Expression.

I'm not overly keen on requiring everything to have an Expression
suffix, but consistency is better than personal preference.

Ben Clayton 575c4efe2f Remove ScalarConstructorExpression
Just make Literal an expression. The ScalarConstructorExpression
provides no real value, aside from having a ConstructorExpression base
class that's common between ScalarConstructorExpression and
TypeConstructorExpression. TypeConstructorExpression will be folded into
CallExpression, so this hierarchy will serve no purpose.

First step in resolving the parser ambiguity of type-constructors vs
type-casts vs function calls.

Antonio Maiorano 02acf59184 HLSL backend: work around FXC ignoring switch with only default case
In HLSL code, if a switch statement has only a default case, FXC will
effectively ignore the code in that case. In this change, we detect this
and work around it by emitting the code in the default block without the
switch.

Ben Clayton a9156ff091 Rework Resolver so that we construct semantic types in a single pass.
The semantic nodes cannot be fully immutable, as they contain cyclic
references. Remove Resolver::CreateSemanticNodes(), and instead
construct and mutate the semantic nodes in the single traversal pass.

Give up on trying to maintain the 'authored' type names (aliased names).
These are a nightmare to maintain, and provided limited use.

Significantly simplfies the Resolver, and allows us to generate more
semantic to semantic references, reducing sem -> ast -> sem hops.

Note: This change introduces constant value propagation across constant
variables. This is unlocked by the earlier construction of the
sem::Variable.
